Gratitude is one of the most important things to embrace when wanting to increase your self-esteem and wellness. When we start appreciating our lives and what we already have in this moment, we start feeling very differently.

There’s an old saying that if you’ve forgotten the language of gratitude, you’ll never be on speaking terms with happiness. It turns out this isn’t just a fluffy idea. Several studies have shown depression to be inversely correlated to gratitude. It seems that the more grateful a person is, the less depressed they are. Philip Watkins, a clinical psychologist at Eastern Washington University, found that clinically depressed individuals showed significantly lower gratitude (nearly 50 percent less) than non-depressed controls.

Too much time is spent thinking about what we don’t have, what we want in the future or what we used to have in our past. We don’t sit down and think enough about the now, the moment that we are currently in and by doing this it can help us improve how we feel about ourselves in an instant.

Start right now… Grab a pen and a piece of paper, write down 1 to 10 and then next to each number write down what you’re grateful for in your life right NOW! I will also do mine…

  3. My health.

  4. That I have a home that I share with someone I love.

  5. YOGA!

  6. That I am from the UK and the opportunities that provides.

  7. The computer I am using to write this post & to connect with everyone reading.

  8. My phone, so I can keep in touch with my friends all over the World.

  9. That I can read and get lost in amazing books & continuously learn.

  10.  The sun rising every day.

Reading mine it becomes apparent very quickly that I have lucked out, I have so much more than so many others out there and not only that and nothing is really very materialistic. Yes I am thankful for my computer, but only so I can connect and write and share what I am sharing; and yes my phone, but only because it keeps me in touch with people I love.
